Monday : My Last Day of Freedom !

Today was the last day of my 4 day weekend ….. back to the old grind tomorrow. It was nice while it lasted !

This morning we slept in and it was heaven ! Like a Sunday only better ! I got up around 8:30 and had a chance to have a cup of tea and read the paper.

Around 10:00 we did some running around and took this little lady to the spa …….

This is Zoey, and she is quite proud of her new do ! She had “the works” done today. Check out the little pink bow in her hair …..she has been trying to get it out since she got home !!

Here is my food for today :

I had some Greek yogurt with 3/4 cup of granola, and a banana.
Greek yogurt is definitely growing on me , especially with the granola added. The flavor I had this morning was peach. The best part of all is how long this breakfast stayed with me. I didn’t get to have lunch until after 1:00 and I was fine !

Lunch today was tuna salad wrap and some wheat sticks …………………………..

Dessert , an apple (a really good one too , but I forgot what kind , I think it was a Gala ) and 5 dark chocolate kisses.

Around 3:30 I had a Go Lean Crunchy Bar … was my last one. I wish I’d bought more , they are really good.

Dinner tonight was something different. I LOVE Mexican food , but the Hubs does not. A WW friend of mine gave me an excellent, easy recipe for Quesadillas, using these fat free refried beans , 100 calorie wraps and reduced fat cheddar cheese.

So easy and sooooooo good ! they hit the spot when I am craving Mexican food ! I had a veggie salad with it.

I am going to try to make one and heat it up for lunch sometime. I wonder if it is as good ?

Last but not least …….. DESSERT ! A slice of DC cake that I iced with a little Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter and a little squirt of lite whipped cream ! It was amazing !
Now I am off to bed , so I can be rested and ready for my first day of Shredding ! Night all !

Preparing For The September SHRED !

I am ready and excited to start “The September Shred Challenge “. I am Sly over at Live, Smile, Run started this challenge ! She must have read my mind because I was planning to do “The Shred” this month. I need something quick and effective to do as a workout because my time this month is limited due to a second job I am doing all month.

I must admit, in reviewing the video this weekend I am more than a little intimidated ! Level one looks doable, but Level 2 and Level 3 look darn right scary ! I hope I can hack it ! I have every intention of doing all 30 Days ……. no excuses !

Here are my beginning measurements :

Chest: 33.2″
Hips: 34.2″
Thigh : 19″
Arm : 10″

My plan is to do The Shred plus 30 min. HIIT on either the treadmill or the spin bike. I am excited to start. I am taking today as a Rest Day because I am planning on not having another until Oct. 1st.

Sunday : A Little Healthy, A Little Not !

The answer to what was wrong with me all day yesterday came promptly at 5:30 this morning …….. TOM arrived ! I got up, took care of business and went back to sleep until 8:30 !!!! That explains the fatigue, moodiness, crankiness, and constant hunger (not to mention bad food choices).

The weird thing with me , is once I finally get TOM , all symptoms disappear completely. I guess that’s a good thing. I am old now, so TOM comes whenever, and sometimes not at all . I can’t say I mind missing it , but lately I have been blessed (yeah right) with it almost every month !

Anyway, food today was pretty good :

I slept in this morning, and Matt and I had a few errands to run that we wanted to get done and over with, so I didn’t have breakfast until 9:30. I had my version of an Egg Mc Muffin : 1 egg on a toasted sandwich thin, with a little sprinkle of reduced fat cheddar and a banana.

At 11:45 I did some easy cardio : 30 min. spin bike, 30 min. elliptical. When I was done I made a Mega Salad to eat all week.(spinach , broccoli, zucchini, broccoli slaw, spring mix) For lunch I had a bowl of my Mega Salad Mixture and I added some sunflower seeds, and sesame sticks. It was so good !

At 3:30 I had Chobani Greek Yogurt. I don’t usually buy it because it is expensive. I found it at a local Market 12 for $12 , so I bought some. I am a little on the fence about Greek yogurt. I am used to the artificially sweetened yogurt, and this stuff is only as sweet as the fruit that is added. Not that it is bad, just different. It will take getting used to. The one thing I love about it is that it is thick ! It is really filling ! I was satisfied after eating it, much more so than when I have the regular yogurt.

I ate really well all day, I ate pretty healthy , so I wanted something really good for dinner. I deiced on Three Cheese Tortellini. I added some chicken breast and some fat free parm.

It was sooooo good ! Plus it totally filled me up. I remember the days when I would eat the entire bag of these in one sitting ! I can’t even imagine that ! One serving is 3/4 c. dry pasta and it is a big portion. There are 4 portions in a bag ! That is crazy !

OK, on to dessert ! I made a Diet Coke Cake today ! I had one slice of cake , one scoop of FF frozen yogurt, a drizzle of lite chocolate syrup, and lite whip cream ! It was like having birthday cake !
Tonight we are going to watch a few episodes of True Blood and relax. Both Matt and I are off tomorrow ! I am not going to say anything about plans because I am afraid I will jinx it !!!!! Whatever happens though, it will be a great day !
I am taking a rest day from working out tomorrow to rest up for the 30 Shred Challenge beginning on Tues. , September 1st !!!!!!! I am not ashamed to say I am a little intimidated. I watched the video yesterday to see what I am in for and it looks tough ! Hope I can hack it ! I guess I will find out soon enough !

Saturday : What Is Up With Me Today ?

I was up this morning at 5:00 am. My husband had an all day class for work this morning, and I got up to make him something to eat on the way there. Since I was up already, I got started on my day.

Another cool, rainy day, so I knew I wasn’t getting to the beach. I figured I may as well get some stuff done around the house.

I threw in a load of wash and then got my Saturday workout in. After that I ate breakfast and started cleaning ! This is part of the end result of my cleaning frenzy. I was watching BBC America while I cleaned. A show called “How Clean Is Your House”. These two funny British women go into these absolutely disgusting homes and clean them up ! I am so fussy when it comes to my house. If the place is messy , not clean to my standards, I can’t relax. Knowing that the entire house is clean will make for a very comfortable evening !

By 1:00 I was done with everything. The whole house was clean, the laundry was done, and I suddenly hit a wall. I was tired, and crabby, and in ” I don’t care ” mood.

The only thing I can think of is PMS. That is the only time I feel like this. Needless to say , my food today reflects that:

The old stand by, and my favorite breakfast , Kashi Cocoa Beach Granola, oatmeal, and chocolate peanut butter.

At 10 am , I had a few sugar free peanut butter cups. These are teeny tiny ! I’ve had bad experiences with sugar free candy in the past so I made sure not to eat too many !

Lunch was peanut butter and jelly on a whole grain sandwich thin.

A few pretzels.

And a nectarine. I just bought these last night, and it was perfect. Really sweet and delicious.

As an afternoon snack I had some edamame. I’ve never had this before . I bought them last night frozen and steamed them . I know I am going to sound like a complete idiot, but when I tried one , I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to eat the pod. So I ate one and thought ” Ew !”. I couldn’t imagine why everyone I ever talked to about these things tells me that they are awesome. Finally, I actually Googled how to eat them. Once I learned that your not supposed to eat the pod, just the bean inside ……….. I loved them ! So I found a new snack.

Dinner was a repeat again. I was in no mood to think about what I was eating so it was nice to have the food ready and only need to heat it up. I didn’t feel like being creative and I didn’t want to think about it ….. so I didn’t !

Dessert , 1/2 cup of sugar free frozen yogurt, lite chocolate syrup, lite whip cream , and a few sugar free peanut butter cups mixed in . Yum !

Later tonight, when all is quiet ………… I have my niece until 10:00 ………… I am going to have a serving of reduced fat popcorn and watch a movie.
My goal for tomorrow is to make an effort to eat a little healthier and drop the “who cares” attitude. Although I haven’t gone over my calorie limit , I feel better when I eat better.

Not What I Had Planned

Well , today was not at all what I expected. The weather all week predicted that Friday would be nice all day, rain in the late afternoon………….. SURPRISE ! When I woke up this morning I knew that the report was WRONG ! Oh well.

It didn’t turn out as I’d hoped and I didn’t really have a Plan B for the day, so it turned out to be a sort of blah day. I could have started laundry , I could have cleaned the house, but I didn’t ! I read blogs, I watched some of the shows I’d DVRed all week, and that was kind of it.

Two things I did do …….. I organized my closet by season and color. That took all of 3 minutes because I don’t have much yet ( I purged myself of all of my fat clothes and haven’t had the funds to replace as much as I would have liked) and I have literally zero in terms of a fall/winter wardrobe !

Another thing I did was workout ! Twice ! I did my usual morning workout of circuits and HIIT. Around 1:00 I was bored. I wanted to watch the 30 Shred DVD to get an idea of what I am in for during the month of September, so I watched while I did 45 min. on the elliptical and 30 min. on the spin bike.

I must have done too much because when I was done I tried to read for a while and ended up falling asleep for a few hours. I think it is safe to say that I was half bum, half workout addict today.

Here is my food for the day. I am ashamed to admit that there is not one fruit or veggie present today ……. it was shopping night tonight, and I have since replenished my fridge !

This morning , since I had time, I made an omelet……. 2 eggs, 2 wedges of Laughing Cow Cheese, and what was left of the baby spinach (my one and only veg. for the day).

Around 10:00 I was wanting something, so I had 15 animal crackers.

It was cold and rainy at lunch time so I had some oatmeal with Fiber One Cereal and a spoonful of chocolate peanut butter.

At 1:00 I decided to workout out of boredom , after my workout I had a Go Lean Crunch Bar.

And a handful (or 3) of pretzels.

Last night Matt and I went to Ocean State Job Lot’s and this is one of my finds. I priced these in my local supermarket today and they were over $3.00. I got these for $1.50 each ! I got the original flavor …… I had that tonight.

And this Mexican flavor.
I had 1 cup of original flavored rice with a 4oz. chicken breast. It was excellent, but I am not surprised. I think Kashi products are always great ! This meal was super filling and satisfying ! I wish I bought more of them !

We went food shopping after dinner, and I stocked up on tons of veggies and some fruit for the coming week. I have been dying for cake all week. I would never buy an entire cake because I know what would happen. I have no problem polishing off an entire cake in one day …….. a piece here , a piece there , next thing I know it is gone and I am sick to my stomach !
I always wish that stores would sell slices of cake instead of whole cakes . Guess what I found tonight ! Single slices of cake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought this and had it for dessert ! I took my shower, got in my PJ’s, made some tea and enjoyed my little treat. It hit the spot , and I am not tempted to over indulge, and I am not sick !
Even though today was not what I planned , at least I wasn’t at work, and I got in some extra cardio ! I guess that makes it a good day after all !

The Day That Lasted Forever !

Today was loooooooong ! It seemed to never end ! When 3:25 rolled around I was literally running out the door of work ! I am now free for 4 whole days !

When I got home from work, my husband wanted to take me to a discount store he found. (he travels the state for work) So I changed my clothes and off we went. I found some neat (cheap) things to work into my dinner menus next week, so I am excited for that !

We didn’t get home until after 7:00, so dinner was late tonight. It’s a good thing I had food cooked in advance , or I may have been tempted to eat something quick or just stop for a burger.
Here is the food for the day. It was a nutso day …….. I was late this morning, and didn’t have time to think out my meals so I pretty much grabbed what was easy and handy.

Breakfast was a repeat of yesterday …..Kashi granola , oatmeal , and chocolate peanut butter. Boring yes ………. but so good !

Morning snack was two seven grain crackers and some reduced fat peanut butter.

Around 11:00, for some reason I am always starving lately ! I was in the mood for something sweet, like a cookie , but settled for a peach. A better choice for sure.

Lunch was a sandwich thin with wedge of Laughing Cow Cheese and some wheat sticks.

While doing errands , I bought a Go Lean Crunchy Bar. It was really, really, good ! And it held me until dinner. I’m glad I bought a few of them. It seems anything Kashi is pretty good in the taste and fulling me up department.

Finally , close to 8:00 I got to dinner. I heated up some chicken , spinach bake and new potatoes. Not creative , but still good.
Tomorrow I have a day to myself. Matt was supposed to be off with me, but he has some end of the month jobs he needs to get done so he needs to go to work. That leaves me on my own for the day.
The plan for the day is to get my workout in , and if weather cooperates, I will go to the beach for a few hours. I would also like to organize my closet …….. not that there is a whole lot to organize ……. but I am doing it in hopes of making room for some fall/winter clothes, which I am in desperate need of , in the near future !
Tonight I have an appointment with the DVR ! I get to watch some of the shows I miss during the week due to my early week day bed times. Have a great night ! Oh, and pray for sun in CT tomorrow , please !!!

Wednesday: Thursday Can’t Come Quick Enough !

The countdown begins ! One more day and I am free ! My 4 day weekend begins tomorrow at 3:30 pm SHARP!

This will be my last easy weekend. For the month of September I will be house/dog sitting. That means a trip to to feed and let the dogs out in the mornings before work and then again after work. I will need to get up an hour earlier every morning. (in other words, in order to get my workouts in I need to get up in the middle of the night, pretty much !)

It will be a challenging month , but at the end of it I will have a week’s vacation to look forward to !

I am going to have to completely revise my routine in order to fit everything into my day. I am determined to make it work ……… I have to keep reminding myself it is only a temporary thing !

For the month of September , the plan is to do Jillian Micheal’s 30 Day Shred every day and add 20-30 min. of HIIT on either the treadmill or the spin bike. I can blog from the house I am sitting for so that will not be a problem.

The goal for the month is to keep up my food and exercise routines as best I can, and to not allow myself to make excuses. Wish me luck !

This morning I got up and did 30 min. circuit training and 30 min HIIT on the treadmill.

This stuff had become a breakfast MUST ! I love it ! It is natural and only 170 calories for 2 T. (I only have one). It makes any kind of cereal delicious ! It is sweet but not too sweet and for me it hits the spot !

This morning I paired my yummy chocolate peanut butter with oatmeal , and Kashi Cocoa Beach Granola. This is the best cereal ever ….. a little chocolaty flavor with coconut and almonds.

For morning snack I had an apple with some reduced fat peanut butter.

Around 11:00 am , I had another one of my trusty peaches ! It looks a little beat up from being in my lunch bag but it tasted like heaven !

Lunch was tuna salad in a wrap ….the wrap tore in my lunch bag ….. it isn’t pretty , but the looks took nothing away from the taste . I also had a 90 calories bag of Special K Tomato Basil crackers.
Not pictured is 1/2 a bag of dark chocolate M&M’s ……….. Could my subconscious be trying to block it out???????

Dinner was a turkey burger in a whole grain sandwich thin, 3 oz. ( I used my new scale to weigh it out exactly !) of french fries , and some spinach with reduced fat cheese sprinkled in top.

Dessert ……… 10 Dark Chocolate Hershey Kisses !!!!!
I am stuffed ( in a good way not a sick way) from dinner and getting ready to read and fall asleep ! Today was busy and I feel drained. The next time you hear from me I will be the happiest blogger in the universe !

Tuesday : Just Another Day ……………

This week is dragging ! I can’t believe it is only Tuesday ! Yesterday felt like it was 3 days ago ! I guess my 4 day weekend is the only thing I am thinking about !

Today was just the average day , full of ups and downs. I was glad to get home and get myself settled in for the night. I got up this morning and did 30 min. HIIT on the spin bike and a 30 min. elliptical program. For breakfast this morning I had some Honey Almond Granola in my usual oatmeal with , of course, chocolate peanut butter.

Morning snack consisted of 2 Rye Crisp crackers with a wedge of Laughing Cow Cheese spread on them and an apple.

The morning was mad busy, never got to lunch until after 2 pm. I had tuna salad on a sandwich thin with 90 calories wheat sticks, and my trusty peach.

When I got home from work Hubby has this little (big) Reese’s Peanut butter cup (my fav) waiting for me with a sweet note ! I had to eat it , right? Such a hardship ……but it had to be done !

For dinner, a piece of salmon, spinach/mushroom bake and new potatoes.

And for dessert ……..some FF frozen yogurt , with a little chocolate syrup (lite) and whip cream (lite) .
Right now I am really tired ! I have no idea why because I went to bed early last night. I think i will just lay in bed and read until I fall asleep.
The count down to my last hurrah weekend begins ……………2 more days and counting !

Monday Again !

Another Monday has come ………. and thankfully gone ! As hard as I try to walk into Mondays with a positive outlook , something always seems to bring me down ! Oh well, the worst day of the week is behind me and it all down hill from here !

This morning , since it was my NOT my favorite day of the week I decided to have a fun breakfast ! Oatmeal , Reese’s Puffs Cereal , and a spoonful of chocolate peanut butter ! Tasted just like a chocolate peanut butter cookie !

AM snack was yogurt with a 100 calorie bag of Special K Vanilla Almond Cereal mixed in.

Around 11:00 , I had a peach.

At 2:00 it was time for lunch………. tuna salad with carrots and broccoli slaw on a wrap with an apple.

And a home made ginger snap cookie , courtesy of a former patients lovely wife ! It was so good, still slightly warm because she’d baked them fresh this morning ! What a treat !

Dinner is hard to see, but I had 1 portion (3/4 cup dry) of 3 cheese tortellini , with a 4 oz. chicken breast, Olivio, and FF parm. I also had a spinach salad with some reduced fat cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.

And last but never least …….. a piece of pudding pie and 5 dark chocolate kisses (100 calories) !!!! Perfect end to a not so perfect Monday !!!!!!!
