Weekly Weigh In :

Posted by Susan on May 16, 2009

Today is a big day for me . It marks the lowest weight I have been in over 8 years of dieting and working out ! I could not believe the number my eyes were seeing this morning ! I am so happy , but I am also almost in shock ! I guess the extra cardio I’ve added on the weekends is definately paying off . I’ve also added about 100 calories to my diet and that seems to have made the scale start to move again .

I am offically 5lbs away from my goal weight of 140 lbs . I can’t believe that I will be at my goal (hopefully) by summer ! I am completely amazed ! I have wanted this for so long and here it is, 5 small pounds away !!!!!

Here are my stats for this week :

Weight : 145.0 lbs. ( 2.6 lb. Loss !!!! )
Fat % : 31.8 ( 0.7 Loss )
BMI : 21.6 (0.4 Loss )

I am definately feeling motivated ! Off to do my Saturday morning Cardio !!!!

My very favorite day of the week ………… FRIDAY !

Posted by Susan on May 15, 2009

My favorite day of the week is finally upon me …. and I could not be happier ! It was a busy , hectic day at work , but coming home makes it all disappear ! I love Friday nights . I usually do some chores , take a nice hot shower and relax . tonight I decided to treat myself to a glass of wine out on the deck . It rained this morning here in Connecticut , but by mid-morning it was sunny and beautiful outside .

I have a lot on my “To Do List” this weekend , as always. I plan on working out tomorrow morning , doing the food shopping for the week , and I have a shade garden I need to get planted . Also the usual laundry and housework . I think we are also planning some kind of outing tomorrow to take my niece on if it is nice , but we haven’t decided just what we are doing as of yet .

Tomorrow is also my weekly weigh in . I am not sure why I am always so excited about it . Maybe because I never allow myself near the scale all week . Maybe because I am so close (6 1/2 lbs away ) from my goal weight . I also am going into it knowing that I worked my butt off all week !

The weather report for Sunday is iffy , but we are planning a hike for Sunday at a trail we have never been to , so that is exciting too .

I am looking forward to a night of catching up on blog reading, watching a movie maybe , and just relaxing , with the knowledge that the alarm clock will not be going off at 3am tomorrow morning ! But ……… when I do get up , the first thing I will do is get my cardio session out of the way !!!!!

Happy Friday Everyone !!!!!!!!

New Goal

Posted by Susan on May 2, 2009

Today my ( skinny ) sister gave me these really cute jeans . They are too big for her ( of course ). They are a size 7 but a teeny-tiny size 7 . I tried them on and I was able to get them on and zipped and buttoned , but they were skin tight ! I decided to make them my new goal pants . I love them , they are so cute !

I was so inspired by these that I pushed myself into doing 60 min. of extra cardio today ! I usually take Saturday as an active rest day , but these jeans changed that plan ! I did 30 mins. of SS cardio on the spin bike , and 30 min. of elliptical on one of the fat burning programs .

I realize that the best way to combat supposed hunger between meals ( you know , you just ate but are still hungry type of hunger ) is to do some cardio . I was not hungry anymore once I started moving .

Once I fit into these jeans I will wear them to Casual Day at work . I have avioded casual day for years because some thoughtless co-worker commented on how big I was once when I wore jeans . I never wore anything but scrubs ever since . When I fit into these well , I will wear them though ! The co-worker no longer works for our company , but I will still feel like I have accomplished something if I am able to wear jeans and finally look good in them !

Look What I got !

Posted by Susan on April 30, 2009

I won a $25 gift card at work last week and I decided to do something fun with it ! I have been a huge fan of the Hungry Girl web site / newsletter and have wanted the cookbooks for the longest time. Since I had some unexpected “found ” money I decided to slurge !!!!
I bought them BOTH ! and love them . For me this book is perfect . Simple , easy , and most of the recipes are one portion . Since my husband likes absolutely nothing , when I cook I only cook for me . I decided I am going to try to make at least one recipe a week (sometimes two , like this week ) and pencil in notes about it , like how yummy it was ……… or not !
This week I am going to make Onion Rings , made with Fiber one cereal , and egg substitute . I love onion rings and haven’t had them in forever ! The picture looks incredible, and they are only 153 calories for a whole large
onion’s worth ! I am also making Peanut Butter Fudge . It is only 65 calories per piece , and super simple . It is made from a brownie mix , canned pumpkin puree and and reduced fat peanut butter . I am making these delicious treats on Saturday , so I will post with pictures and reviews on how they tasted .
On the workout front , this morning was so great ! It was a cardio day for me . I did 30 mins. of SS cardio on the elliptical . Then I decided to do 30 mins. of HIIT on the the spin bike. That was intense ! I’ve done it before , but not in a while . This time for the 1 min of alternating intense riding I did it super hard tension and stood while I rode. It was tough , but my mantra when I am doing intervals is ” I can do anything for 1 min ” . I made it through and I felt amazing afterward . Great workout ! I am thinking about adding an extra workout session on Saturday this week because I know the last 10 lbs. will be a bear to get off . Some extra cardio can’t hurt . I will do it first thing and get it over with ! I know I need to step it up . I figure the extra day of cardio, coupled with the Sunday morning hike and all the work I need to do around and outside of the house will be enough to move this weight loss along .

I am spending my vacation with……………….

Posted by Susan on March 24, 2009

These guys ! It is nice to have extra time in the day to do some extra working out. Yesterday I did an extra 1 hr. cardio session plus my regular circuit training and HIIT session. Today is a cardio day, and I don’t think I will have time for 2 sessions, but I will definately get in 1 hr.of SS cardio. I am also fasting today until dinner, because tonight is dinner out with some friends I used to work with. We’ve stayed in touch now for like 5 years I think, seen each other through 2 weddings, a new baby, and numerous other ups and downs in our lives. We try to get together for dinner every few months. Lately though, especially since I have been seriously working tward my weight loss goal, I have been avoiding the whole dinner thing. This dinner date with them is long over due.

I researched the restraunt we are going to, it is called Maggie McFly’s. It is a chain , theme restraunt, with a whole bunch of very fattening crap on the menu. I think I found something suitable though, but I need to do something I have never really done before………ask for something the way I want it ! Yes , as silly as it sounds I have never done this. Aside from asking for dressing on the side, or hold the fries I’ve never ordered food to my specifications. Tonight will be a first. I found a really nice salmon salad: salmon on a bed of organice baby greens, but it comes with red potato salad in the actual salad…………I want them to hold the potatoes and give me a different dressing than the one it is tossed with on the side…….I have this thing about not putting people out on my account, and it extends into restraunt ordering for some crazy reason. But I am seeing that people do this all the time…so why not get things how I want them right? I also don’t like drawing attention to the fact the I am on a diet……..but too bad, who really cares anyway.

One thing that I don’t like about this vacation thing are the nights…I’ve mentioned before that one of my issues is night time eating. Last night I had my niece until close to 9pm (my sister works Mon. nights). when she left I was starved , I tryed to sleep, but mentally knowing that I did not have my to get up at my usual ungodly hour in the morning, I wasn’t able to sleep. I got up and ate 3 cookies !!!! I know no great tragedy, I did not go over my calories , it was really no big deal, but it pissed me off just the same ! I have got to get to bed earlier, not give myself a chance to get the “night munchies”. Tonight I will be home a bit late , but I will (hopefully) be full from dinner and be able to take a shower and relax without temptation.

Tonight will be fun, and I am excited to catch up with friends. I bought a new top to wear, because I am finding most of my tops are big and look really sloppy because of it. I bought simple , navy, fitted blouse I will wear with my new smaller size jeans (yay! I’ve had those suckers for 3 years and FINALLY they fit well). When I was bigger I would just wear my scrubs out when we went out, since I was usually going out from work, it was never a big deal. It was easier, too , than agaonizing over what to wear that would not make me look like a line backer (remember, I am 5’9″ and 200 lbs. doesn’t make you look just fat, but BIG !) . It is so nice to feel a little better about how I look and not take the “oh who cares what I look like anyway” approach to dressing because nothing looks decent !!! I think I will have a good night !

The Aftermath :

Posted by Susan on March 22, 2009

Yesterday I was disappointed in my small loss in weight. Today is a new day, and I am feeling less disappointment and much more determined to pull a bigger number next week. I have all the time in the world this week to do extra cardio, and really take my time with my circuits. I feel like I am going to do better next week, I feel positive and definately more motivated. I can not turn back now, I worked too hard to get here and I am not going to allow myself to get discouraged.

I have tons of plans for the coming week. Today, I plan on doing a good long cardio session. I want to do a 30 min. warm up walk on the treadmill, then a 45 min. spin class, followed by a 45 min. elliptical session. I know it is kind of extreme, but I feel the need to take advantage of this week of free time, use it well. My yard is a total mess, so I plan on taking the nice days and working outdoors, getting fresh air. I also have a few closets in my home that need organizing, for the rainy days that are possible. I plan on working out in the mornings as I usually do, and adding some extra cardio at lunch time, I have plans with friends I never get to hang out with too. I feel like all this planning will help me NOT eat out of boredom. I am using this vacation time to teach me some lessons. Aside from wanting to lose weight, I also want to teach myself new behaviors. I know very well what my food issues and triggers are. The trick , I think, is to find ways to re-route my thinking. I am excited to see how I handle it all. I can remember when I hated taking time off, because I would always end up weighing more when it was over. I need to enjoy the time off and not sabbotage all of my hard work at the same time. A challenge, but I am up for it !

So the week to come, I predict, will be good. It will be fun, relaxing , and very interesting . I will see how far I’ve actually come in changing not only my eating and exercise habit, but my behaviors as well.

*** Blog Update: I did the extra cardio today. I did 30 min. power walk, 45 min. elliptical, but just 30 min. of bike, not time for a spin class, not to mention I was pretty tired ! But I am really happy about doing what I said I would do . Food was good today too.
