Fun Family Sunday !

We had a blast at my mother in law’s today. A lot of food and laughter as usual. The party began outdoors but moved inside on account of bees and it was really chilly out there ….. for me at least !

By the time the party got underway it was after 1:00 and I hadn’t eaten since 8:00 so I was starving !

We had some munchies until dinner was served . I had some , but didn’t want to go crazy just because I was hungry , so I snacked and walked away (far away ) from the table so I didn’t go overboard before dinner was even served !

For snacks we had some crab salad, it was delicious !

Along with chips and dips ……..

As I mentioned ……… I did indulge !

Finally dinner was served.

My sister in law made her famous Notorious B.I.G. Salad ……….. No matter the occasion, all of us request she bring this salad ! It is amazing. A bunch of chopped veggies, apple, dried cranberries, sometimes almonds, sometimes walnuts, and feta cheese. It is the best salad ever !

This was my plate. I has a little bit of everything ( more than a little salad). In having a little of everything I was able to get a taste of all that was offered , so I didn’t feel deprived. The one thing I cam extremely careful of is over eating. It literally makes me sick. I feel bloated, and gross and usually end up with heartburn. Having made the mistake so many times I am extra careful to try to listen to my body and obey the signals when it is trying to tell me I’ve had enough.

For dessert , my special brownies ! I like them chewy as apposed to cake like so that is how I always make them. I also like them frosted because that is how my Mom always made them.

This is what the end of my meal looked like ! And it was worth every single calorie ! Yes is is big, and yes I ate the entire thing !!!!!

Right now it is about 6:00 and I am still full so I doubt I will eat anything else for the remainder of the night . (maybe a lite snack later, maybe not) The plan for this evening is to relax , watch some TV and get to bed !
Nothing planned for tomorrow. I am looking forward to sleeping in, and having a relaxing last day of freedom !

Taking Advantage Of The End Of Summer !

Since the weather today was close to perfection, we decided to make the most of it ! We piled in the truck and went for a hike !

We went to a Nature Center in our town. My husband and I hiked the trails there this past spring, and thought my niece would like it . She has never been hiking before and this was a perfect beginners trail for her.

After hiking we went to lunch. Matt and I decided to visit one of our favorite places. We love to have breakfast here , so we thought it would be fun to try it for lunch.

It always reminds us of something out of “The Andy Griffith Show “. It’s really small town and old fashioned. It’s usually full of regulars , because the waitresses always seem to know everyone by name.

We were all starving. It was almost 2:00 and none of us had eaten since breakfast. I ordered a flame broiled veggie burger and sweet potato fries. It was excellent ! The fries were the best part ! I have to admit I ate every bite !

Matt and Katie had ice cream for dessert , I opted for a home made brownie. It was warm and delicious. I only ate about 2 bites, I shared it with everyone.

After such a big , late lunch I wasn’t hungry when dinner rolled around. But when it got to be around 8:00 I was . I had a sandwich thin filled with a laughing Cow Cheese Wedge, and some whole wheat pretzels.

And …….. a single slice of carrot cake !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love carrot cake and this slice was perfection ! It was moist and the cream cheese frosting was light, not super heavy, just like I like it !
It wasn’t the best eating day I’ve ever had. With all the unexpected things we did, I wasn’t able to plan like I do during the week. But that’s OK. I still did better than I could have done. We went food shopping tonight , so my fruit and veggies are restocked . As long as I am getting the workouts in and being mindful of my portion sizes I should be fine.
Tomorrow we have plans that include unknown food choices for me, but that doesn’t stress me anymore. I eat what I want but keep everything moderate !
I may have a surprise after the Holiday weekend is over (Tues.) so stay tuned !!!!!!!

The Start of A Holiday Weekend !

Labor Day weekend, the last official weekend of summer . Even thought I love fall, I am sad to see the summer end. As I’ve mentioned before, I live in a lake community. More than half of my neighbors don’t live here year round. After this weekend is over, most of the homes are closed up . We get a few visits for fall leaf peeping, but by Halloween, most of the summer folks are long gone .

By the time I got home from work today, almost every summer home was hopping ! Families and friends all up for the last hurrah. But after Monday, the neighborhood be quiet again. Kind of sad. During the winter the neighborhood is like a ghost town.

Today at work was crazy busy. I was literally running all day ! I went in early to get some filing done uninterrupted , and got only half of it done. After work I got my hair cut and colored, and then went home and Matt and I decided to go out .

I am finally relaxing and unwinding after a long , busy day ! And I am more than ready for some time off !

Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast, I had some oatmeal with Kashi Cocoa Beach Granola , and a spoonful of chocolate peanut butter. I had my last banana too.

I took a few minutes out around 10:00 and had a nectarine.

By 11:30, I was feeling a little out of gas, so I had some edamame.

By the time lunch rolled around I was not hungry at all. I just wasn’t in the mood to eat anything, but I knew that I had things to do after work and that I probably wouldn’t get to eat dinner until late, so I ate anyway. I had a veggie salad with sunflower seeds and sesame sticks. An apple for dessert.

Matt and I went out to a few stores and decided to go out to eat. I wasn’t in the mood for anything in particular , so I told Matt to pick somewhere. He was in the mood for diner food. I had a veggies burger on whole grain toast, fries and coleslaw. I ended up eating only half the fries.
I was too full for dessert so I am done for tonight in the food department ! ( can you believe I am not going to eat dessert ????)
I think I am going to go to bed and read soon. I am totally beat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to wake up naturally tomorrow morning. NO ALARM CLOCK !!!!!!!!!!
Shred Update :

Day 4 /Level 1 : complete , plus 20 min. HIIT on the treadmill.

Weird. I wasn’t sore the first few days of this workout, but I am sore today. Not in a bad way, but I feel it more today than after the first day.

Freedom Is Just A Day Away !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hurray ! Almost Friday ! And a Holiday weekend to boot ! Can’t get much better than that right ? We have no plans aside from a small get together with Matt’s side of the family on Sunday. It should be fun .

This weekend is my last weekend of the summer. I will be busy with an extra job all month, and by the time I’ve finished it it will be October ! I plan on enjoying it as much as possible !

Here are today’s food choices:

For breakfast , an egg sammie and a banana ……….. for whatever reason it tasted especially good ! I was starving this morning after my workout !

Work today was crazy busy. I had an apple and a granola bar. That held me until lunch because I was way too busy to even think about if I was hungry or not ! ( a good thing I guess)

For lunch I had some granola in Greek yogurt, and a nectarine.

Dinner was a HUGE veggie salad with a chicken breast, some sunflower seeds, sesame sticks, and reduced fat cheese.

I was really low on calories today ( making up a little for the cake splurge yesterday) so I had this concoction …… DC cake, FF frozen yogurt , lite chocolate syrup , and whipped cream. A dark chocolate kiss instead of a cherry !
Shred Update :

Day #3 / Level 1 : complete , along with 20 min. HIIT on the treadmill !
I know it is probably my imagination , but I sweat I FEEL leaner ! I know, it has just been 3 days , but I can feel my body responding and even if it isn’t , this illusion is keeping me extra motivated !!!!!

Wednesday : The Week Is Flying By !!!!

Already halfway to the weekend ! I love it when time flies like this week has ! I am REALLY tired tonight so I am going to make this post short and sweet !

Breakfast : Oatmeal with Zoe’s Granola and chocolate peanut butter , with a banana. Something I never noticed before about bananas …… they are really filling ! I’ll have to buy them more often !

For my AM snack I had a nectarine and Chobani Greek Yogurt. ( I took a pic but forgot to upload it ! )

As I mentioned yesterday, we threw a Bridal Shower for a co-worker today. I decided to skip the 6 ft. cold cut sub, and other goodies and stick to my own lunch brought from home.

For lunch today I went light …….veggie salad with sunflower seeds and sesame sticks for protein. I did this because ……………………

One of my co-workers makes the most amazing cakes in the world ! During my dieting time, I always passed on her delicious cakes, but now that I am maintaining , I made sure I had some ! It was so worth every single calorie !!!!! Moist marble cake with butter cream frosting ! I didn’t have a huge piece, but I had enough and I savored every heavenly bite. I also had 1/2 of a fudge brownie !!!!

Burger night is the only night of the week Matt and I eat together ! He has no desire to embrace a healthy lifestyle and just eats what he wants most nights. He grilled himself a burger and me a turkey burger. I had it on a whole grain sandwich thin with oven fries , corn on the cob, and a salad.

Even though I splurged today on goodies from the shower , I still had dessert. I had some dark chocolate kisses !

Today was a day of firsts …….. September 1st, first day back to work after a long and relaxing weekend, and of course , my first day of the SHRED !

I am not ashamed to admit it, I wasn’t sure about it . I was scared to death that I would commit to it, and then have to come back and say …… I just can’t keep up with Jillian !

I am so glad that didn’t turn out to be the case. I got up this morning, pushed play on the DVD player and got to work. It was tough , absolutely ! I do circuits , but not without any rest ! This was a non-stop , sweat pouring off me , heart pounding , totally challenging workout ! And I really LOVED it !!!!!

I love how she really stresses proper form , how she talks you through it all , and energized I felt when it was finished ! I was worried I would be too beat afterward to get in my 30 min. HIIT. As it turned out, I was feeling great and did my HIIT without any problem at all !!!

I can’t wait to try it again tomorrow ! It is exactly what I want in a workout : short and sweet but at the same time gives me the feeling that I did something !

Here are my food choices for today :

Breakfast : whole wheat toast topped with reduced fat peanut butter and a banana ……. surprisingly filling !

AM Snack : An apple and a granola bar. ( I ate half before I remembered to take a picture of it !)

Lunch : Left over tuna salad from yesterday’s lunch on a whole grain sandwich thin and some Special K Crackers.

PM Snack : Some edamame …… this time minus the pod !

Dinner : Kashi 7 Grain Rice Pilaf , and 4 oz. salmon along with a veggie salad topped with some reduced fat cheese.

Dessert : A repeat of last night , but photographed from a different angle ……. I’d been thinking about this all day …….. so good ! DC cake , iced with Dark Chocolate Dreams and a squirt of lite whipped cream.
Tomorrow we are throwing a bridal shower for a co-worker . After a lot of thought , I’ve decided to skip the shower goodies and bring my own lunch ……. But I think I will indulge in a small slice of cake !!!!!!
Off to bed for me ! I went to bed much to late last night , and I need to get some catch up sleep. I am trying to train myself to get up earlier so when I start my Sept. house sitting gig, it won’t be a shock to my system . I need to get in my workouts no matter what !

Monday : My Last Day of Freedom !

Today was the last day of my 4 day weekend ….. back to the old grind tomorrow. It was nice while it lasted !

This morning we slept in and it was heaven ! Like a Sunday only better ! I got up around 8:30 and had a chance to have a cup of tea and read the paper.

Around 10:00 we did some running around and took this little lady to the spa …….

This is Zoey, and she is quite proud of her new do ! She had “the works” done today. Check out the little pink bow in her hair …..she has been trying to get it out since she got home !!

Here is my food for today :

I had some Greek yogurt with 3/4 cup of granola, and a banana.
Greek yogurt is definitely growing on me , especially with the granola added. The flavor I had this morning was peach. The best part of all is how long this breakfast stayed with me. I didn’t get to have lunch until after 1:00 and I was fine !

Lunch today was tuna salad wrap and some wheat sticks …………………………..

Dessert , an apple (a really good one too , but I forgot what kind , I think it was a Gala ) and 5 dark chocolate kisses.

Around 3:30 I had a Go Lean Crunchy Bar … was my last one. I wish I’d bought more , they are really good.

Dinner tonight was something different. I LOVE Mexican food , but the Hubs does not. A WW friend of mine gave me an excellent, easy recipe for Quesadillas, using these fat free refried beans , 100 calorie wraps and reduced fat cheddar cheese.

So easy and sooooooo good ! they hit the spot when I am craving Mexican food ! I had a veggie salad with it.

I am going to try to make one and heat it up for lunch sometime. I wonder if it is as good ?

Last but not least …….. DESSERT ! A slice of DC cake that I iced with a little Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter and a little squirt of lite whipped cream ! It was amazing !
Now I am off to bed , so I can be rested and ready for my first day of Shredding ! Night all !

Sunday : A Little Healthy, A Little Not !

The answer to what was wrong with me all day yesterday came promptly at 5:30 this morning …….. TOM arrived ! I got up, took care of business and went back to sleep until 8:30 !!!! That explains the fatigue, moodiness, crankiness, and constant hunger (not to mention bad food choices).

The weird thing with me , is once I finally get TOM , all symptoms disappear completely. I guess that’s a good thing. I am old now, so TOM comes whenever, and sometimes not at all . I can’t say I mind missing it , but lately I have been blessed (yeah right) with it almost every month !

Anyway, food today was pretty good :

I slept in this morning, and Matt and I had a few errands to run that we wanted to get done and over with, so I didn’t have breakfast until 9:30. I had my version of an Egg Mc Muffin : 1 egg on a toasted sandwich thin, with a little sprinkle of reduced fat cheddar and a banana.

At 11:45 I did some easy cardio : 30 min. spin bike, 30 min. elliptical. When I was done I made a Mega Salad to eat all week.(spinach , broccoli, zucchini, broccoli slaw, spring mix) For lunch I had a bowl of my Mega Salad Mixture and I added some sunflower seeds, and sesame sticks. It was so good !

At 3:30 I had Chobani Greek Yogurt. I don’t usually buy it because it is expensive. I found it at a local Market 12 for $12 , so I bought some. I am a little on the fence about Greek yogurt. I am used to the artificially sweetened yogurt, and this stuff is only as sweet as the fruit that is added. Not that it is bad, just different. It will take getting used to. The one thing I love about it is that it is thick ! It is really filling ! I was satisfied after eating it, much more so than when I have the regular yogurt.

I ate really well all day, I ate pretty healthy , so I wanted something really good for dinner. I deiced on Three Cheese Tortellini. I added some chicken breast and some fat free parm.

It was sooooo good ! Plus it totally filled me up. I remember the days when I would eat the entire bag of these in one sitting ! I can’t even imagine that ! One serving is 3/4 c. dry pasta and it is a big portion. There are 4 portions in a bag ! That is crazy !

OK, on to dessert ! I made a Diet Coke Cake today ! I had one slice of cake , one scoop of FF frozen yogurt, a drizzle of lite chocolate syrup, and lite whip cream ! It was like having birthday cake !
Tonight we are going to watch a few episodes of True Blood and relax. Both Matt and I are off tomorrow ! I am not going to say anything about plans because I am afraid I will jinx it !!!!! Whatever happens though, it will be a great day !
I am taking a rest day from working out tomorrow to rest up for the 30 Shred Challenge beginning on Tues. , September 1st !!!!!!! I am not ashamed to say I am a little intimidated. I watched the video yesterday to see what I am in for and it looks tough ! Hope I can hack it ! I guess I will find out soon enough !

Saturday : What Is Up With Me Today ?

I was up this morning at 5:00 am. My husband had an all day class for work this morning, and I got up to make him something to eat on the way there. Since I was up already, I got started on my day.

Another cool, rainy day, so I knew I wasn’t getting to the beach. I figured I may as well get some stuff done around the house.

I threw in a load of wash and then got my Saturday workout in. After that I ate breakfast and started cleaning ! This is part of the end result of my cleaning frenzy. I was watching BBC America while I cleaned. A show called “How Clean Is Your House”. These two funny British women go into these absolutely disgusting homes and clean them up ! I am so fussy when it comes to my house. If the place is messy , not clean to my standards, I can’t relax. Knowing that the entire house is clean will make for a very comfortable evening !

By 1:00 I was done with everything. The whole house was clean, the laundry was done, and I suddenly hit a wall. I was tired, and crabby, and in ” I don’t care ” mood.

The only thing I can think of is PMS. That is the only time I feel like this. Needless to say , my food today reflects that:

The old stand by, and my favorite breakfast , Kashi Cocoa Beach Granola, oatmeal, and chocolate peanut butter.

At 10 am , I had a few sugar free peanut butter cups. These are teeny tiny ! I’ve had bad experiences with sugar free candy in the past so I made sure not to eat too many !

Lunch was peanut butter and jelly on a whole grain sandwich thin.

A few pretzels.

And a nectarine. I just bought these last night, and it was perfect. Really sweet and delicious.

As an afternoon snack I had some edamame. I’ve never had this before . I bought them last night frozen and steamed them . I know I am going to sound like a complete idiot, but when I tried one , I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to eat the pod. So I ate one and thought ” Ew !”. I couldn’t imagine why everyone I ever talked to about these things tells me that they are awesome. Finally, I actually Googled how to eat them. Once I learned that your not supposed to eat the pod, just the bean inside ……….. I loved them ! So I found a new snack.

Dinner was a repeat again. I was in no mood to think about what I was eating so it was nice to have the food ready and only need to heat it up. I didn’t feel like being creative and I didn’t want to think about it ….. so I didn’t !

Dessert , 1/2 cup of sugar free frozen yogurt, lite chocolate syrup, lite whip cream , and a few sugar free peanut butter cups mixed in . Yum !

Later tonight, when all is quiet ………… I have my niece until 10:00 ………… I am going to have a serving of reduced fat popcorn and watch a movie.
My goal for tomorrow is to make an effort to eat a little healthier and drop the “who cares” attitude. Although I haven’t gone over my calorie limit , I feel better when I eat better.

Not What I Had Planned

Well , today was not at all what I expected. The weather all week predicted that Friday would be nice all day, rain in the late afternoon………….. SURPRISE ! When I woke up this morning I knew that the report was WRONG ! Oh well.

It didn’t turn out as I’d hoped and I didn’t really have a Plan B for the day, so it turned out to be a sort of blah day. I could have started laundry , I could have cleaned the house, but I didn’t ! I read blogs, I watched some of the shows I’d DVRed all week, and that was kind of it.

Two things I did do …….. I organized my closet by season and color. That took all of 3 minutes because I don’t have much yet ( I purged myself of all of my fat clothes and haven’t had the funds to replace as much as I would have liked) and I have literally zero in terms of a fall/winter wardrobe !

Another thing I did was workout ! Twice ! I did my usual morning workout of circuits and HIIT. Around 1:00 I was bored. I wanted to watch the 30 Shred DVD to get an idea of what I am in for during the month of September, so I watched while I did 45 min. on the elliptical and 30 min. on the spin bike.

I must have done too much because when I was done I tried to read for a while and ended up falling asleep for a few hours. I think it is safe to say that I was half bum, half workout addict today.

Here is my food for the day. I am ashamed to admit that there is not one fruit or veggie present today ……. it was shopping night tonight, and I have since replenished my fridge !

This morning , since I had time, I made an omelet……. 2 eggs, 2 wedges of Laughing Cow Cheese, and what was left of the baby spinach (my one and only veg. for the day).

Around 10:00 I was wanting something, so I had 15 animal crackers.

It was cold and rainy at lunch time so I had some oatmeal with Fiber One Cereal and a spoonful of chocolate peanut butter.

At 1:00 I decided to workout out of boredom , after my workout I had a Go Lean Crunch Bar.

And a handful (or 3) of pretzels.

Last night Matt and I went to Ocean State Job Lot’s and this is one of my finds. I priced these in my local supermarket today and they were over $3.00. I got these for $1.50 each ! I got the original flavor …… I had that tonight.

And this Mexican flavor.
I had 1 cup of original flavored rice with a 4oz. chicken breast. It was excellent, but I am not surprised. I think Kashi products are always great ! This meal was super filling and satisfying ! I wish I bought more of them !

We went food shopping after dinner, and I stocked up on tons of veggies and some fruit for the coming week. I have been dying for cake all week. I would never buy an entire cake because I know what would happen. I have no problem polishing off an entire cake in one day …….. a piece here , a piece there , next thing I know it is gone and I am sick to my stomach !
I always wish that stores would sell slices of cake instead of whole cakes . Guess what I found tonight ! Single slices of cake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought this and had it for dessert ! I took my shower, got in my PJ’s, made some tea and enjoyed my little treat. It hit the spot , and I am not tempted to over indulge, and I am not sick !
Even though today was not what I planned , at least I wasn’t at work, and I got in some extra cardio ! I guess that makes it a good day after all !
